Bookshelf Detail View

Holes in the back piece allow the user to pull it forward to lock.

A folding bookshelf designed for efficiency of materials and packaging and ease in moving. The folding assembly allows it to pack flat and take up minimal space in shipment. A frequently relocating user can easily assemble and disassemble it with each move.

Cloth Hinge Assembly

Cloth Hinge Action

Hinge allows the shelves to fold upward.

Cloth Hinge Closed

A 1-inch shoulder allows the shelves to support each other when closed.

The shelves are made with integrated cloth hinges. The materials from top to bottom are birch plywood, a honeycomb paper fill, poplar hardwood edging, a cotton strip, and another bottom layer of birch plywood. This design saves weight while keeping strength only where it is needed. Aside from the pop rivets and living hinge which create the hinges in the back piece, all materials are biodegradable.
