As you may have guessed from the number, this is a new series in which I will highlight (mostly quirky) observations of how people use things.
Self-referential as it may be, I’m starting with my own computer workstation. When I’m working at home, I plug my laptop in to an external mouse and keyboard, and I elevate the laptop so that my monitor is at eye level (some important basic ergonomics). Rather than buying a laptop stand, I opted for putting some old books to good use. You know, those books that you might use for weights if you need to flatten something on a table.
It also doubles as a business card holder. I enjoy being able to fan out and arrange the cards as I am going through them. It serves as a sort of ever-evolving visual landscape of my current status of networking.
